Head to head, 2016

The starting point of this installation is an audiovisual research project on Berlin’s bars and pubs of the 1970s and 1980s. History as a fluid construction, and the possible confusion between reconstruction and so-called facts, play a central role in the installation.

The soundtrack is composed of archival material by FM Einheit, recent documentary recordings from remaining pubs, and fragments of an interview with Harry Hass conducted by Julian Spaan. Distributed through five speakers around the room, the sound creates an atmospheric environment.

The ink drawings of Berlin’s bars and pubs from the 1970s and 1980s were created within the framework of the project Atlas on MediaThinking and MediaActing in Berlin, Transmediale Conversationpiece, at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in 2016.
